A-Line is Cincinnati’s new community for women. Like its namesake, the classic but quirky and universally flattering A-Line silhouette, A-Line is the magazine that fits.
Be Curious. Be Engaged. Be A-Line.
PRINT. ONLINE. EVENTS.
Maija Zummo is a subpar but inspired knitter and gardener. She also happens to be a writer and the Editor in Chief of this fine magazine. A luddite at heart, she mans A-Line’s Facebook and Twitter pages, all the while collecting old typewriters and library card catalogues. Her home is filled with dogs, thrift-store treasures, shoes she can’t walk in and assorted baked goods. She encourages people to make things with their hands (cakes, cocktails, shelving units…), especially if they turn out a little wonky. Rebecca recently taught her a good designer joke about font. It has something to do with Comic Sans.
After begrudgingly completing her degree in fashion design, Rebecca Sylvester creatively collapsed in on herself and hid in the basement of American Apparel, analyzing sales reports and inventory charts for the better part of a year. When she finally sucked it up and decided to rejoin humans above ground, she went looking for a career path in design that would both not involve swatching fabric and allow her to maintain her dirty jeans and slippers are appropriate work attire lifestyle. Enter CITYBEAT. After a brief stint as a freelancer Rebecca joined the CityBeat production team and became involved and excited about a city she had always taken for granted.
As the Art Director of A-Line Rebecca is adamant about the role that typography and layout will play in defining the magazine. As much care and scrutiny goes into the interaction of the headlines with their content as the content itself. Although entirely ironic to her, Rebecca is actually excited to be a large part of the fashion and style section of A-Line. Using her degree for good instead of evil makes the student loan payments much less painful.
Shannon Loeffler, a Louisville native, followed her heart to Cincinnati in late 2009. After years of retail sales had started to wear her nerves too thin she decided it was time for a change. She craved a career in a fast paced environment, in an industry she was passionate about. She was sick of the retail day-to-day, serving one customer after another, but not really ever getting to know any of them. Her passion is relationships and she needed to find a place where she could create, build and nourish relationships with her clients. Along came a friend from CityBeat who told her of a new magazine, the brainchild of two creative and driven young women, Maija Zummo and Rebecca Sylvester. This was to be a women's publication, centered on fashion and arts and culture and food and ooh-la-la, she knew this was meant to be her new home. In what seemed like a flash, her dreams of working on the launch of this new women's publication became reality. Shannon considers herself a life-long Cincinnati resident. The only thing Louisville that remains is her southern drawl, and she'll never lose that y'all.
